So my cousin wants to become a Cisco Certified Network Associate and I told him that IT and Information Systems was a great field to get into. I tried to help him find some resources that would help him in his CCNA training and I found out that there's a TON of resources for CCNA and CCNA-hopefuls out there. There's a thing called CCNA boot camp that he's going to have to go through but I'm sure it's not as bad as marine boot camp or anything. I hope he gets the job because he's always been into computers and networking. Hopefully in due time if he puts in the hard work he'll be certified!

So recently my MacBook crapped out on me so I decided to go another route and free myself from the shackles of Steve Jobs. I've always had a fascination with custom computers and just decided today that I would fork over the cash for a custom laptop. It's not easy searching for a computer that suits your needs. First of all, I'm into video production so I definitely would need a machine that perform well above industry standards. Technology is always changing so a good rule of thumb is to always invest your money into the best systems so you get more longevity from it. Howard custom computers is a place where you can shop for a custom laptop that suits all of your needs. Their prices look good and their support looks to be good as well. LIFE INSURANCE - DO YOU NEED IT?

Just recently I engaged in a conversation with my friend on whether or not they have life insurance. Of course he said no, saying he didn't want o pay a premium and that he had very little chance of something happening to him. I asked myself whether I could take that risk or not (and of course I couldn't!) So I started to look on the internet for some articles on life insurance. I found a real life cover to be something that I'd be interested in. Funeral cover insurance sounded like I should knock on wood literally every time I read more and more about it. Then I read about income insurance (didn't even know this existed!)

Needless to say I'm definitely going to talk to my wife about this and see what she has to say! What are your thoughts on life insurance??

Going Fishing this Afternoon

We are waiting for the crowds to leave, then we are heading out to the beach. This is the best time of year to live in South Carolina--the fish are plentiful and the tourists are getting ready to go home for the season.
I don't really mind the tourists, but since we are right on the beach, I am afraid someone is going to wander right into the house while we are out, despite the "Private Residence" sign on the gate.
On the plus side, we did get an bellevue WA Adt alarm systems this year, so I set it whenever we are going fishing or kayaking, just in case. Hoping for some more flounder tonight, my 7 year old caught three flatties last week on her own so hopefully we will get lucky. I have some parsley and butter all ready to go, just in case.
My favorite flounder recipe, perfect for going fishing at the beach:
Fresh caught and cleaned flounder (you can substitute flounder from the grocery store)
1 tbsp butter
2 parsley sprigs
Lemon
Aluminum foil
Melt the butter in the microwave.
Place the fish on the foil with the skin side down.
Top with parsley, salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon.
Wrap the foil into a packet and fold to secure.
Grill for 20 minutes, or until fish is white and flakey.

Movie time can be any time for me, but especially when I need an attitude adjustment. Movies make me happy. Science fictionand comedy tend to do the trick. More importantly, is who you choose to take with you. You need to have an established relationship with the person you choose to go to a movie with. Why? Everyone has those little habits at the movies, you know, opening your candy bar loudly, texting, talking during the movie, or even laughing at the wrong times. Knowing what to expect from your company during the movie just makes the movie more enjoyable. Do you like sitting after the movie is over and read every single credit? If so, you need to make sure this habit is shared by those who accompany you. If not, just tell them you dropped something and you need to look for it and for them to go ahead you'll be there in a minute. When heading home, relax, you did remember to turn on the alarm before you left, so no surprises are awaiting you at home. Preparation is the key to no surprises, before you leave to go to the movie turn on the house alarms and make sure you choose the right person to see the movie with, doing these two things means no shockers and a successful attitude adjustment.

I've started to listen to more and more Eminem lately just because he simply is a raw lyricist. It's crazy that this guy has been through hell and back with drugs causing his downfall. Whether or not we see him regress back into that lifestyle, it's still clear that he's one of the illest (no pun intended) Emcee's out there. The addiction facts are written all over the place and the fact that he was able to bounce back and save his career is amazing. Places like the Portland Drug Rehab have great tools and staff to ensure that people bounce back from these low points in their life. Let's take Eminem's word that he had to go through that place to be where he is today!

I've started to watch more and more TV lately due to the fact that I've started working from home. My current cable package wasn't exactly cutting it so I decided to research some alternatives. When I visited www.localtv-satellite.com I started to learn about all the great things that local tv satellite has to offer. The thing about localtv-satellite.com is that it really gives you all the information you're looking for in an easy to digest manner. My favorite TV shows of this season have been Burn Notice and Jersey Shore. I also like the Real World although this season isn't as good as it used to be.

The unanimous Super Bowl contender is the Green Bay Packers. Their defense is very talented and Aaron Rodgers is an emerging QB stud. The 49ers will win the NFC West and the Jets will embarrass themselves due to the lack of inconsistency that Mark Sanchez has shown throughout the preseason. The surprise teams of the season are the Falcons and the Dolphins. I predict them and the 49ers to be in the playoff picture.

Catching Up With My Homework

My school recently got involved with the internet and published a website for the school. They made a really nice website that is always up to date and really helpful. One great feature that is on the website is homework assignment. The teachers are able to post their homework assignments online for students and parents to view. This made going on vacation a lot easier this year. I didn't have to go to my teachers one by one and ask for the assignments. I was able to use the clear and tv package to go online and catch up on all the assignments I missed.

Using the internet definitely helps with homework, especially if you are absent from class. I am glad my school finally got up to date on technology and added this feature to the school. Their website makes life a lot easier, whether I am out for a sick day or I forgot to write down an assignment. I am always able to see the homework assignments that are due and get them done before I go back to school.

I was in North Carolina over the weekend to help my friend move around. He's a music producer and produces a lot for some local and national artists in the R&B, Smooth Jazz, and Hip-Hop genres. I visited him to help him choose a new office for his studio and even help him find a new apartment. We visited Luxury Durham, NC Apartments and he liked it, but he was also particularly fond of Rent High Point, NC Apartments. What he ultimately chose was Charlotte, NC Apartments, which I loved too, because there's enough space for him to set up an in-house production studio there. I think we'll go with that one for sure!

TOP 10 MOVIE FIGHTS OF THIS SUMMER!

To me, this summer was JAM PACKED (highlighted with Inception) with great movies. Here are SFGate's top 10 movie fights:

10. Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) versus the big villain (performer's name withheld to protect the guilty), "Salt" - Given, it may require zero gravity straight from "Inception" to appropriately suspend disbelief as the wispy heroine takes out hordes of highly trained killers twice her size. But her inspired dispatching of the ultimate baddie is a delight. Let's just say, in order to keep plot details classified, that hell hath no fury like a female covert operative scorned - and manacled.

9. Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) and Danson (Dwayne Johnson) versus jewel thieves, "The Other Guys" - It's über-macho supercops versus parkour-inflected thieves. To avoid spoilers, all that can be said is it's the end of the chase that makes this one of the season's more memorable scenes.
8. Col. Hannibal Smith (Liam Neeson) and the boys versus gravity, "The A-Team" - This sequence, in which our heroes bail out of an exploding Army transport plane - in a tank, no less - spells out how enjoyably absurd the whole exercise is. In free fall, thousands of feet up, Hannibal commands his squad to rotate the tank's turret to precise degrees and fire, then reset and fire. Seeing this, deadly serious officer Charissa Sosa (Jessica Biel) grumpily explains to bewildered observers, "They're trying to fly that tank."
7. The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) versus a bunch of guards, "Iron Man 2" - Strictly speaking, War Machine and Iron Man taking on the army of drones is the best fight in the movie, certainly the most fanboy-cool moment, but Johansson's Black Widow assault may have been the most enjoyable scene. For a variety of reasons.
6. Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) versus two thugs, "The Girl Who Played With Fire" - The two films from the vaunted "Millennium Trilogy" of Swedish novels that have been released stateside are intelligent, unflinching thrillers with two superbly drawn main characters - but they're far from perfect. Both films rely on credibility-straining coincidences, and "Fire," in particular, has serious logical problems. Where the hype is totally justified - perhaps even understated - is over Rapace's indelible, feral work as Lisbeth. It's always satisfying to see the diminutive, antisocial hacker get the better of opponents, as she does here with two motorcycle-riding meatheads.
5. King Richard's army versus the French, "Robin Hood" - So the film was short on derring-do; it was long on moxie. Here director Ridley Scott stages another of his eye-popping cinematic sieges (think "Gladiator" meets "Kingdom of Heaven"), to great effect.
4. Barry (Steve Carell) versus Therman (Zach Galifinakis), "Dinner for Schmucks" - With those two actor-combatants, it's hard to go wrong. But throw in that it's a psychic battle ... with mind bullets ... and you can taste why this makes such a fine dessert.

3. Aisha (Zoe Saldana) versus Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), "The Losers" - The film may not have been great, but the brutal mating dance between the Losers' leader and the femme fatale conveyed the sexual tension that so many movies wish they could. Saldana's dance training paid off handsomely with her "scorpion kick," knocking Morgan silly with a foot to his face - over her own head.

2. Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) versus the habitants of a drug den, "Kick-Ass" - If you like beat-downs with attitude, this is the flick for you. This profane, irreverent burst of energy has to make "X-Men" fans wriggle with excitement that director Matthew Vaughn is directing "X-Men: First Class." Pretty much any scene with Moretz's Hit Girl is a highlight, but her first fight gets the nod here, for the element of surprise. Here we discover that little girls are made of sugar and spice and very sharp blades of various sizes.

1. Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) versus subconscious security projections, "Inception" - If this spectacular hand-to-hand combat in a dream hotel tumbling end over end doesn't win the MTV Movie Award for best fight, then the whole thing is as fixed as a Teen Choice Awards dance battle. First, the idea is fantastic. Second, the execution - especially Gordon-Levitt's spiderlike grace as he negotiates the spinning walls with icy focus - is flat-out superb. Third, this is a special, not visual, effect. Writer-director Christopher Nolan insisted on doing as much in-camera as possible (keeping CGI to a minimum). So when you see the actors bouncing off the ceilings as they try to pound each other's faces, keep in mind that's really them doing it for the most part. Awesome stuff, bravura filmmaking.

So, my mom is finally in need of some new scrubs. After working in a retirement home for 20 years, her 20 year old scrubs were begging to be thrown out. Of course, she wanted me (the Internet expert) to find her some good deals online. When searching for cheap scrubs, you must be wary -- they aren't as simple as you may think. These nurses have to be completely lightweight to serve their patients all while wearing fashion statements such as, "I love flowers!" or "I love rotating bear images!" Not to be outdone, my mom told me that price shouldn't be a factor, and that she would want nursing scrubs that scream individuality in a workplace where scrubs rule supreme. Scrub clothing is not an easy task to undertake. If you're like me, just buy the most expensive item you can find -- because if all nurses are like my mom, they wouldn't care as long as it looked and felt great.

Recently my friend who owned a medium sized company was sued for having an employee steal from a client. Although it wasn't directly his fault, his company had to take full responsibility, thus having his company dissolve into nothing.

Another friend of mine had his child severely stricken with an illness that would have been covered by an insurance plan but didn't - he had to sell his brand new car in order to pay for the medical bills. 9 DAY LONG TRAFFIC JAM?!

This traffic jam lasted 9 days in China. What a sight.. I wonder if a lot of the cars just completely ran out of gas. I also wonder what the heck people did for food and water during the jam. Only in China.... only in China.. I can only imagine what an employee tells his boss when he enters the office after 9 days of absence: "Sorry, stuck in traffic!"

Growing up, I've always had terrible acne. I assumed it was because of things such as genetics, lack of water, stress, etc. I tried to combat all of this with store bought oils and heavily marketed face washes that always seemed to just leave my face feeling tight and itchy. Then it dawned on me: I should be using all-natural products. I have no idea what these huge companies are putting into their products. One thing I've started to figure out when I started eating healthier is that organic and natural go a long way.

Next time you buy any product, make sure you look at the ingredients and active ingredients. If words sound too funky or laboratory concocted, it may be a safe bet to avoid them entirely. These products are usually tested on non-humans and only work for a small percentage of people. Going all natural is your safest bet for an overall clean, refreshing face.

Football season is coming up and nobody is as excited as I am! Being a natural sports and tech geek, I want to watch my football the best way possible. It seems as though Brett Favre, aka the biggest drama queen the NFL has seen (he makes Albert Haynesworth seem reasonable) will be returning to the Twin Cities this Fall. It would suck to be the 2nd string Viking QB (is it still Tavaris Jackson? oh well who cares) to think for the past 2 years you were in training camp thinking you'd be the first stringer but an old man comes along and sits your butt on the bench. We'll see how this decision turns out (and if Favre's bones stay intact) but one thing's for sure: I haven't forgotten about that last second touchdown throw against the Niners last season ='(

Reliving “Nip/Tuck"

When the show “Nip/Tuck” premiered on TV, it was in the full height of plastic surgery reality shows and my career aspiration was to become a reconstructive plastic surgeon. Eventually the craze for that segment of reality died down and I decided I wanted to become a nutritionist instead, but I watched the drama until the very end, which happened to be this spring.

One of my college roommates started watching the show the last season with me and was of course confused, so now she’s re-watching the entire series online. We had dinner together a few nights ago and she inspired me to do the same. So now we get to go over each episode’s plot line together through instant messaging on my wild blue internet service.

Since I started streaming the shows online, I notice that it’s going a lot faster with satellite internet compared to dial-up, which is even more important because there’s a cliffhanger at the end of almost every episode that makes me want to watch at least the first part of the next episode immediately.

I always pulled for Christian to end up acting like a good person, although he was obviously the bad boy of "Nip/Tuck." Now I get to root for him even more again.

Mesothelioma Awareness

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that spreads through the lining of organs, usually caused by the exposure to asbestos. Asbestos, as defined by the Environmental Protection Agency, is:

When asbestos-containing materials are damaged or disturbed by repair, remodeling or demolition activities, microscopic fibers become airborne and can be inhaled into the lungs, where they can cause significant health problems."

People everyday are exposed to this material, and people actually have to work in conditions where inhaling this harmful fiber is normal.

Paul Kraus is an example of surviving mesothelioma, as he has written a book on how he outlived his prognosis for 1 year. You guys should check out his book on Amazon. Mesothelioma cancer awareness has to begin somewhere, and everyone should be aware of it.

If you know anyone who has been living in a condition where they have been exposed to inordinate amounts of asbestos, please, tell them to seek medical attention to catch any early signs of mesothelioma.

FOURSQUARE (AND NOW YELP) ALLOWS YOU TO CHECK-IN WITH YOUR FRIENDS

Foursquare , an emerging company which lets you “check-in” to places to update your friends and vice versa has released a free mobile app for iPhone, Droid, and Blackberry. You can check-in to almost everything: the grocery, a barber shop, the bank, a playground, anything you can think of, even your bed. Individuals who check into the same place the most amount of times becomes the "Mayor" of that place.

Recently, Yelp, the social networking and user review monster, has decided to adopt this check-in system and add it to their mobile app, perhaps to hinder some of foursquare’s growth, therefore, imitating Foursquare. But, imitations is the highest form of flattery. Foursquare is only in its early stages of its mobile app, for it tracks the wrong metrics and fake check-ins are rampant, making it rely on the honor system. The honor system plays a big role in making this “game” fair. But for the past few months, Foursquare has been working on a newer and less flawed version of their check-in leaderboard and even taking suggestions on what to do with the accumulation of points.

Foursquare has brought about a new type of networking game, which merely involves traveling and logging where you are, over and over if you wish to become mayor of a certain place amongst your friends.

Were you expecting men in tights? Scott Ridley, who directed Gladiator, and Russel Crowe are back at it again with this version of the tale of the one who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Expect Gladiator but with bows and arrows.

The trailer looks promising, THT will be watching this opening day for sure.

Shutter Island

Turns out that Seth Rogen can't take a joke.

In response to the Sunday, July 19th episode (Episode 2) of HBO's Entourage titled "Amongst Friends" where Turtle calls Rogen's "ugliness...oddly fascinating" among other things, Rogen went on the attack. He lashed out at Entourage creator Doug Ellin by calling him an "*sshole" and a "moron." And the feud is on!!!

For those who did not see last weeks episode . . .
WARNING! ***SPOILERS BELOW***

The episode had a running gag with Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) obsessing over how a guy that looks like Seth Rogen could get such a hot woman like Katherine Heigl in Knocked Up to marry him. The show opened with a very funny debate in which he talked about how Rogen is ugly and disgusting. He went to ask everyone he could if they thought Rogen was good looking. At the end of the show the joke was brought up again as he asked all the women in the room including his character's (and real life) girlfriend Jamie-Lynn Sigler if they would actually sleep with him. All the women showed utter disgust except Drama's date who said she slept with him when she was drunk. I thought it was pretty funny but apparently Rogen didn't.

It seems like creator Doug Ellin and producer Mark Wahlberg don't like Rogen very much with Wahlberg recently calling him misogynistic. Now this episode drops which could very well be the most personal and direct attack in the history of the show and the feud intensifies.

According to MovieLine, Rogen responded in an interview this week by telling E!'s Daily 10 show the following:

"Yeah, those guys are *ssholes. I actually ran into Matt...Kevin Dillon in a Starbucks. And he's like 'you know, I've got to kind of apologize because apparently the guy who created our show doesn't like you so much.' And I said 'well I have reason to believe because I think [showrunner] Doug Ellin is a moron from all I can understand so it makes sense he doesn't like me.' And I've kind of said some disparaging things about the show. Although in our defense, [producer] Mark Wahlberg called us misogynistic in an interview, so I think they kind of started that...It's on. Luckily I never have and never plan on watching Entourage."

CSU TO STOP ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING 2010

California State University system said it will stop accepting nearly all student applications for the spring 2010 term to help offset deep budget cuts to the 23-campus system.

CSU officials said Thursday that campuses on the quarter system have stopped accepting applications for the 2010 winter term.

CSU, which has about 450,000 students, typically admits more than 35,000 freshmen, undergraduate transfer and graduate students during the spring term.

The decision to close spring admissions is part of its overall strategy to reduce student enrollment to cope with a 20 percent reduction in state funding.

The CSU Board of Trustees is expected to vote on an overall plan to address a nearly $600 million budget shortfall when it meets in two weeks.

PHONTE HINTS AT LITTLE BROTHER HIATUS

In a post that was featured on the Okay Player message boards Phonte, one-half of North Carolina based Hip Hop group Little Brother, explained to fans that Leftback, the duo’s upcoming project, may be one of Little Brother’s last.

“It's been three studio albums, a host of mixtapes/mix-albums, a gang of label/internal group drama and we still survived through it all,” Phonte explained. “For me, it just feels like a 'we came, we saw, we made our mark' sorta thing. I don't know if there's anything left to prove.”

Phonte’s post was a result of an interview with 215mag.com that Phonte posted earlier on the boards. In the interview Phonte referred to Leftback as the groups “denouement." Phonte was then questioned by one of the Okay Player board members curious to know if Phonte was referring to the end of the Getback era or the end of Little Brother.

“Me and Pooh will always make music together in some capacity,” said Phonte. “If anything it'll be more like a BlackStar situation where we will have our solo endeavors but still occasionally perform together and pop up on each other's projects. But as for the LB brand, ‘Leftback’ will definitely be the last fix for awhile.”

Formed in 1998, Little Brother have been a mainstay in Hip Hop for quite some time. Together the group has released three albums and former Little Brother member 9th Wonder has had the opportunity to collaborate with artists such as Sean Price and Jay-Z.

Little Brother are expected to release Leftback some time this year.

It's been more than a decade since this show aired yet the themes and morals of the show seem to be as relative more today than they were back then. So I finally got around to watching the pilot of Glee on FOX after seeing it as a trending topic on Twitter and I must say it's a very unique musical-comedy show that makes me eager to see the next episode. I'm not sure exactly when the next episode is, but the combination of perfectly timed adult jokes, The Office-like subtle humor, the music, acting, etc. makes it a show worth following this summer.

I don't really like watching TV, but I have been using this nifty new app from Hulu called Hulu Desktop. If you have a Mac, it even works with your Apple Remote if you have one. Pretty cool.
And yes, the first episode of Glee is on Hulu.

LEBRON JAMES "MORE THAN A GAME" DOCUMENTARY

The documentary features the lives of Cleveland Cavaliers Lebron James and his childhood teammates in their path to win a high school national title. The documentary premiered in only Toronto last September, but many other NBA fans such as I wanted to be able to watch it. Good news is that they are showing it in more theaters. The bad news is that its only showing in the cities of Akron, Los Angeles, and New York on October 2nd.

RICK ROSS - DEEPER THAN RAP REVIEW

After being pushed back a month from its original release date, Rick Ross’s highly anticipated “Deeper Than Rap” is set to be coming out in stores April 21st, 2009. Deeper Than Rap, otherwise known as DTR, supplies us with a variety of collaborations including names like T-Pain, Kanye, Nas, The Dream, Robin Thicke, Avery Storm, and John Legend, who, of course, is featured on the first single of this album, “Magnificent.”

“All I Really Want”, produced by Tricky Stewart (The Dream’s go-to guy for beats if you didn’t know already), is a new sound for Ross. This beat might sound a little plain, like it hasn’t reached its full potential, but still does its job in making a decent track.

I don’t think Rick Ross could have done another album without doing a song with Avery Storm. With the success of “Here I Am” last spring on the U.S. Billboard, it’s apparent that it is probably due to Avery Storm’s catchy and one of a kind voice in the chorus. Despite the decency of the beat and Avery’s respectable appearance in the chorus, unfortunately it looks like the collabo with Avery on DTR won’t be a single due to its song title “Rich Off Cocaine”, unless of course they redo the whole track so it’s just “Rich.”

Other good features of this album are the songs with Robin Thicke & Ne-Yo, which were both produced by The Runners, who also did “Speedin” on Rick Ross’s “Trilla” album. "Bossy Lady", the track with Ne-Yo, labeled my favorite song off the album, apparently hit the radio recently (or today) in the bay area. Not sure if it’s going to be the next single or they’re just giving a first listen. The track with Robin Thicke, “Lay Back,” could easily become Ross’ next single, along with “Bossy Lady” and “All I Really Want.”

With that said, here’s the track list with my usual side notes.

OSCAR "GOLDEN BOY" DE LA HOYA RETIRES FROM BOXING

Today April 14, 2009, Legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya has officially retired from boxing. De La Hoya's amateur career included 223 wins, 163 by knockout, with only 6 losses. He represented the USA in the 1992 Olympics and won a gold medal in boxing. His professional career included 39 wins, 30 coming by knockout, and 6 losses with his last fight being a loss to Manny Pacquiao. The fight gave strong influence to De La Hoya that he "just didn't have it anymore".

During the press conference held Tuesday, De La Hoya looked emotional, but proud. De La Hoya expressed that he is retiring from "his first love", but he is proud of his achievements during his career, and what he has done for the sport of Boxing.
